Game word
» Great FAQ, answers a lot of my initial doubts.
Gosh, this seems so complex. On the 1 hand, kudos for Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta keeping the game intact so that there won't be a riot over fluctuations people do not like. However on the other hand, since they're remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100% and synchronize personality models completely.
Synchronizing 100% personality models doesn't sound simple. The problem is that the older outfits and layer wear are modeled to match the older pso2 body. That's unlikely to occur. Well, I mean that I'd be willing to shed a certain proportion of these makeup to keep things intact across variations. As long as there's a continuous feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I constantly rotate out my old appearances anyhow. Provided that the character versions translate 1:1 it'll still feel just like mine. I'd imagine a massive complication to that entails a lot of the cosmetics from the Japanese side of things which were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The example I can think of is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I could imagine the clothes and weapons could unquestionably be provided a visual update alongside everything else but I do not exactly know how the licensing or the way the lawful side of the cooperation works where I would wish it had been as easy as Sega going through and updating the resources but I don't understand about how much of Capcom is involved in that procedure. The same is applicable to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration with Odin (which exists as far as I know) where I don't understand how much of Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to be able to upgrade assets there. If it was only just Phantasy Star-related items (like character outfits, cameos from different games, or other Sega-related properties) I could imagine that this likely would have been achieved, or at least would be carried out. But from the Global variant we don't have the existence of Cougar NX so I do not know if there are other complications regarding Sega's own properties that might also contribute not to upgrading everything they could within reason. I can envision that probably out there we will still see somebody wearing those old collaboration things even when they are not rigged up to the very same criteria as fresh cosmetics in a similar way and that there would have been outrage when it had been made unusable or obsolete. Collabs who have experienced their cosmetics removed still have their resources exist on the sport so those will likely still be accessible for jp players. Only improvements we will probably see is the new engine enhancing shadows, reflections, colors, particle effects and projecting them from the outfits. You can take a look how exactly applying better shadows and colours can enhance older equipment by checking ReShade screenshots.
