As a player, Patrick Roy enjoyed a great deal of success, winning three Vezina Trophies and earning six NHL All-Star selections en route to his election to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006. Gary Lewis Jersey . That same year, he won a Memorial Cup as the head coach and part owner of the QMJHLs Quebec Remparts. Patrick Roy knows how to win, both as a player and a head coach. Will that translate into success as the new head coach of the Colorado Avalanche? The Avalanche finished with the second lowest point total in the NHL this season so there is plenty of work to do. His success with the Remparts shows an ability to work with young talent and his new roster is peppered with just that, including the likes of Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Ryan OReilly, who have yet to reach their enormous potential. And they hold the first overall selection in Junes NHL Draft with the opportunity to add a blue-chip prospect like Portland Winterhawks defenceman Seth Jones, who grew up in Denver idolizing Roy and new Avalanche executive vice-president of hockey operations Joe Sakic, or Halifax Mooseheads forward Nate MacKinnon. The timing may be perfect for a coach like Roy to grow with this group and become a perennial power in the not-too-distant future. However, coaching at the junior level is much different than being behind the bench at the professional level. Roy was an emotional player with the Canadiens and the Avalanche. He was an emotional coach with the Remparts. Will that emotion be a blessing or a curse in the NHL? Junior-aged players may respond well to a verbal blasting because they want to get to the next level. NHL players are more likely to tune out a coach who takes them to task for every little breakdown. But Roy could be different due to his instant credibility as a Hall of Famer who has had success in the coaching ranks. How many young players have the courage to confront Roy for something he doesnt like? One thing is for sure, Roy will not leave any of his goaltenders in net for nine straight goals! Will Roy lead this group of young talent to the playoffs in short order and then challenge for a Stanley Cup for years to come? Or will the jump from junior to the NHL prove to be too much of a change for his coaching style? How much success will Patrick Roy experience as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche? As always, its Your! Call. Steve Spurrier Jersey . -- Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Farmar will be out for roughly four weeks after tearing his left hamstring. Russ Francis Jersey .
